Senior Domain Consultant - Cortex
Palo Alto Networks
Gary is a 20-year veteran of the Security Industry, having come from an Industrial Chemistry, Process Control and Management Systems Consulting foundation.

Originally, an Industrial Chemist with a Process Control foundation, Gary got frustrated asking why tests would fail and couldn’t improve the processes around him. So, he pivoted to Management Consulting, where he wrote and implemented Quality Management Systems. Unfortunately, the IT Systems of his systems couldn’t support the electronic document management systems Gary would introduce, and ended up spending more time working on a customer’s IT issues than their Quality Management.

Gary then started his own IT Systems Integration business, building networks, servers and security. Since then, he has transitioned to become a Senior SE at Watchguard, then a Senior Security Engineer at Sourcefire, before being acquired by Cisco where he worked in the Advanced Threat Solutions Group as a Senior SE.

Gary joined Palo Alto Networks at the start of 2020, as a Senior Specialist Systems Engineer, looking to solve a new set of problems, how to apply advanced machine learning threat analytics for the benefit of the customer and incident responder, without imposing massive architectural change or vendor lock-in. He brings to the position 20+ years of customer-facing experience, along with Industrial Control System security and Incident Response.

Most recently, Gary has been focused on the opportunity to use AI to drive transformation in security operations, and has been engaged with various organisations in Australia and New Zealand, helping them understand the benefits of this inflection point in the cybersecurity industry.
